Variation in fatty acid content among benthic invertebrates in a seasonally driven system

نویسندگان

چکیده

At temperate latitudes where seasonal changing environmental conditions strongly affect the magnitude, duration and species composition of pelagic primary production, macrobenthic organisms living below photic zone rely on sedimentation organic matter as their energy source. The succession from nutritious spring blooms to summer cyanobacteria is assumed reduce food quality for benthic consumers fatty acid (FA) profiles. In contrast, we find low variability in FA content five macroinvertebrates spanning two trophic levels Baltic Sea, a system with high variation phytoplankton composition. However, major groups vary greatly between species. results suggest that have evolved metabolism adapted degraded sedimenting material. Moreover, our study shows macrofauna rather than availability essential nutrients higher levels.

Biogeosciences Discussions This discussion paper is/has been under review for the journal Biogeosciences (BG). Please refer to the corresponding final paper in BG if available. Abstract This study presents benthic data from 12 samplings from February to December 2010 in a 2 m deep channel in the southwest Baltic Sea. In winter, the distribution of solutes in the porewater was strongly modulated...

Variation in Oil, Protein Content and Fatty Acid Composition of Twelve Turkish Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) Lines

Opium poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) has two major products: alkaloids in the capsules and the seeds.  The seed contains oil, protein, carbohydrate, moisture and mineral matters. The seed oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, particularly linoleic and oleic acid. Remaining meals after oil extraction are the important source for animal diets. The United Nations recognize Turkey and India as tra...

Dispersal Dynamics in a Wind-Driven Benthic System

Bedload and water column traps were used with simultaneous wind and water velocity measurements to study postlarval macrofaunal dispersal dynamics in Manukau Harbour, New Zealand. A 12-fold range in mean wind condition resulted in large differences in water flow (12-fold), sediment flux (285-fold), and trap collection of total number of individuals (95-fold), number of the dominant infaunal org...

The effect of Rainbow trout farms effluents on benthic macro-invertebrates of Marber River in Semirom

The effect of Rainbow trout farms effluents on benthic macro-invertebrates of Marber River in Semirom city was investigated in spring and summer of 2013. Sampling from benthic macro-invertebrates was done monthly using Surber sampler (mouth area of 30.5 * 30.5 cm with a 500 mesh net) at entrance, discharge and far from three fish farms. In addition to measuring physical and chemical parameters ...

CONTROL OF CHAOS IN A DRIVEN NON LINEAR DYNAMICAL SYSTEM

We present a numerical study of a one-dimensional version of the Burridge-Knopoff model [16] of N-site chain of spring-blocks with stick-slip dynamics. Our numerical analysis and computer simulations lead to a set of different results corresponding to different boundary conditions. It is shown that we can convert a chaotic behaviour system to a highly ordered and periodic behaviour by making on...
